  • > LABEL - ANTIQUITIES
  • It is forbidden to export antiquities and works of art found in Greece, with the exception of a very few categories for which a special license from the Ministry of Culture is required. If a traveller is found in possession of antiques or works of art without an export license, the object will be confiscated and the offender will be prosecuted.   • > LABEL - CATHOLIC SERVICES
  • The Catholic church of Santa Maria, located at Neochori (on the corner of Kathopouli and Dragoumi Sts) holds services from April to October at 7am on weekdays and at 8am, 11am and 7pm on Sundays. St. Francisco church, located close to the Stadium of Rhodes, on Dimokratias St, celebrates mass from April to October at 8:30am on weekdays and 10am on Sundays. During the winter both churches hold Mass only on Sundays.

  • Rhodes has many doctors of all specialities. Some see patients only at their private surgeries, where payment will be expected. There are also many doctors that work for the Greek National Health Service (ESI) at the General Hospital "Andreas Papandreou" in Ag. Apostoli and in various Health Centers across the island. The General Hospital's Accident & Emergency unit is open 24hrs a day. There is also a good number of pharmacies in Rhodes town and in the villages of the island.   • All the main Greek banks i.e National Bank of Greece, Emboriki Bank, Alpha Bank, Eurobank, Nova Bank, Piraeus Bank, Cooperative Bank of the Dodecanese etc. have branches and ATM machines on the island. Banks are open from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 2pm. Some Branches at the centre of the City are also open in the afternoon Monday to Friday. Visitors going to the Bank to exchange money into Euros or to cash travellers cheques must remember to have their international passport with them. Since January 1st 2000, Greece has adopted the Euro as its national currency.

  • Postal Services on the island are operated by the Hellenic Post (ELTA). There are post offices in Rhodes Town and all the main villages of the island. The central post office in Rhodes Town is in the Mandraki opposite the Church of the Annunciation (Evangelismos). The post office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 8:00pm and Saturday from 7:30am to 1:30pm. The reception desks of most hotels and super markets sell postage stamps.   • The bus network covers the island efficiently and the vehicles are in good condition. Within the town there are bus routes that cover all the areas of the City of Rhodes operated by RODA which serves the West coast and part of the East coast up to Faliraki. The other operator is KTEL. It serves the East coast of the island up to Kattavia village. The buses of both operators leave from the New Market area at Mandraki.
